A Brief History on Challenge Coins

A challenge coin is best known as a small medallion bearing the emblem of an organization, given to members as a symbol of membership, recognition, and pride. The tradition dates back to ancient Rome, but gained wide modern popularity in US military and enforcement agencies.

Nowadays challenge coins often show support for emergency response organizations, and are emblems of what those organizations stand for. With this coin, Foothills SAR both celebrates our 30 year history and our focus on Developing and Maintaining Community Expertise – to best support the communities and wilderness regions that we live in and serve.
